THE LODGE AT BURRO MOUNTAIN HOMESTEAD

The lodge was completed in 1914 by Colonel Robert Munro-Furgeson and his wife Isabella. It remained in the family until sold in 1956.  During those years the Furgesons hosted numerous dignitaries at the homestead including Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt as well as members of the English and Scottish nobility.  For more on the history of the Homestead and the Furgesons, obtain the  following references:

The lodge has a spectacular Great Room with two fireplaces, a large kitchen with a Majestic wood fired stove, six bedrooms, and 2 baths.  Today the lodge is used by the Southwestern Camper Ranch members and guests as a meeting room, for special functions and meals.  Two of the bedrooms are rental guest rooms.  Other rooms are a Craft room,  Exercise room, Billiards room, and a Lending library.

The Lodge roof repair was started in June, 2004, by SCR when a leak in the roof came through to the Great Room ceiling.  Part time residents of Burro Mountain organized a fund drive  to complete the roof.  The committee raised $38,200 in donations from members and friends of the  Ranch.  The Lodge roof repairs were  completed on June 24, 2006.  The entire Lodge is now re-roofed with a permanent metal roof which will protect it for years to come.
